Aristotle -
The 5th Element

Travel to Halkidiki,
discover the 5 elements
and see the world through
Aristotle's eyes.

They say that no other place in Greece can boast beaches like those of Halkidiki. Still, the region stands for far more than beaches. Halkidiki is the perfect combination of the reviving Mediterranean light, the unspoiled land, the lively communities and a glorious past to explore.

Add the local gastronomy, the religious traditions, the openness and hospitality of the people, the wide range of activities and lifestyles; flavour with the soothing scent of the pine-trees and there you are! -the already desirable has turned to the simply irresistible.

Halkidiki is literally sculpted by nature forces to balance earth and sea. Three peninsulas, fjiord-like bays with emerald beaches and coves, imposing mountains -the stage for thriving life and civilizations in every form -like the thousand- year old monastic state of Mt. Athos, a unique World Heritage Site!

You will love the land and the rich produce of its gardens and orchards. It is truly a place of dreams... and your dream has only just begun...

Who is Aristotle?

Aristotle, born in Ancient Stagira of Halkidiki, is one of the greatest international personalities of all time. He was the father of logic, laid the foundations of sciences and determined the principles of politics. He was a pupil of Plato and the tutor of Alexander the Great. Alexander the Great said of Aristotle: “I am indebted to my father for living, but to my teacher for living well”.

UNESCO logo - United Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization 2400 years after his birth, UNESCO honoured his work and declared the years 2016 and 2017 as “Aristotle Anniversary Years” with the anticipation that his views and thinking will enhance world unity and peace.

The project

According to the theories of ancient Greek scientists the world is made of 4 natural elements: Fire, Air, Water and Earth. Aristotle added a 5th element, ether, which he named Quintessence (fifth essence). This element represents the secret of worldly and human existence; it represents the ageless, the imperishable, invariance, it is what holds the elements together.

2400 years after his birth, Aristotle’s Halkidiki “teaches self-awareness to visitors and how to live well”, while enjoying the 4 natural elements and discovering the 5th element.

The 5 experiences of the 5 elements
of Aristotle become a mystical game in
which everyone visiting Halkidiki can
participate. A game that is rewarded
by the Tourism Organisation
of Halkidiki with souvenir gifts.

  • Domaine Porto Carras SA

One of the oldest Greek wine varieties, Limnio, is told to be the favorite wine of the Greek philosopher Aristotle. The ancient Greeks placed a high value on the importance of wine and Limnio is mentioned in the ancient writings of Hesiod and Aristotle as the wine from "Lemnia uvula" and was cultivated in ancient Greece. It was spread across North Greece from Limnos, especially in Halkidiki and the islands of Sporades.

Now, the majority of Limnio variety is produced at our Domaine Porto Carras vineyards at Northern Greece Halkidiki, PDO Meliton Slopes region. Limnio wine is moderate in color, elegant in aromas and flavors, dominated by fresh, aromatic herbs and elegant, red berry fruits. Limnio is an excellent wine for wine drinkers who want to get away from the heaviness of international wine varieties. Domaine Porto Carras vineyards are one of the most historic estates in Greece and stretch amphitheatrically over 475 hectares along the western side of Sithonia, Halkidiki. Our Limnio bears the PDO Slopes of Meliton identification and is vinified with expertise and care by our experienced oenologists in the Domaine΄s facilities. The design and selection our Winery location at the centre of the Vineyard, helps in the fast delivery and process of grapes, aiming at maintaining their quality dynamics and to avoid oxidation.

  • Kazakis House of Viticulture

The Kazakis House of Viticulture exists since 1994 and remains, to date, a traditional family business. Their products are all organically grown and produced using only pure and fresh ingredients. Starting with a small production of a mere 500 jars in the beginning of the ‘90s, Marianna’s Vineleaves are nowadays exported to all European countries, North America and Japan. They are also the vineleaves of choice for countless households and professionals in Greece. It is our pride that “Halkidiki Vineleaves”, as many call our leaves, are now synonymous to good vineleaves. Our constant good quality and their unmatched tenderness make Marianna’s Vineleaves a prerequisite for successful Ntolmadakia.

In their organic vineyards, they produce everything the Greek sun offers – except wine. They also process the production of other organic farmers to offer, among other foods, our tender vinetops, fig and pumpkin retseli (sweets based on grape syrup), marmalades and comfitures.

All their products are also sold in our retail shop, at our factory. They enforce an open-doors policy throughout the year and we welcome families and their friends, but also organize visits from schools and tourist groups. Further, we are a proud member of the Wines of Northern Greece association.

Take a tour to the plant after walking through the vineyards themselves and see how full traceability of the products is achieved by the costume-made, state of the art systems.

Your visit will not be complete without trying the family triple-distilled tsipouro with the compliments of the family!
